Dolly zoom: the camera slowly travels backward while the lens zooms in, keeping the man the same size in frame, while the background compresses and closes in on him for a sense of vertigo. In an old elevator, a man in a suit watches the floor number jump to “B1”; when the doors open it's pitch black outside. He puts out a hand to hold the door and says over his shoulder to the person behind him, “Are you sure it's this floor?” 4 seconds, the travel and zoom in sync and restrained; the background change is clear but his face size and features stay the same.

Common pitfalls
- Models usually get only half of it, either the push or the zoom; you must write “the person stays the same size”.
- Faces tend to melt.
- Overused, it looks like a music-video effect rather than storytelling.
