Watch: Looking past the near person's shoulder at the one across: the foreground is soft and the back is sharp, so the audience naturally takes the place of the person in front.A line-art demo that only illustrates the technique, not finished footage.

Prompt templates are written from how generation models usually behave and have not yet been verified one by one with real generations. “Common pitfalls” are judgment from experience, not official limits.

The technique comes first, followed by the scene, action, performance and duration. Paste it straight into a video model and swap in your own characters and plot.

Over-the-shoulder shot: in the foreground, the right-hand person's shoulder and the back of his head, out of focus; focus on the left side of the face of the person opposite. In a small diner, a father pushes a bank card to the middle of the table; his son doesn't take it. The father's hand stays on the card as he says, “The PIN is your birthday.” The son, stirring the noodles in his bowl without looking up, answers, “I don't want it.” 5 seconds, shallow depth of field, steady focus; the foreground shoulder must not cover the eyes of the person opposite.
04

Common pitfalls

  • The foreground shoulder disappears or turns into a blob of color.
  • The two people swap identities.
  • Unrealistic depth of field, with both front and back sharp.
05

Parameter tips

Foreground takes 1/5 to 1/4 of the frame; specify shallow depth of field; keep the axis consistent on the reverse.
