The technique comes first, followed by the subject, scene, details and aspect ratio. Paste it straight into an image model and swap in your own subject.
Window light from one side, the person lit on one side with a soft falloff on the other, the window frame casting a crisp patch of light on the wall, the background slightly dark. An old-fashioned study in the afternoon: an old man in glasses leans back in a rattan chair by the window reading the newspaper, fine dust floating in the sunlight. 4:5, a crisp shape to the light patch, detail kept in the shadows.
04
Common pitfalls
- Both sides bright, losing the sense of direction.
- Window light too hard, leaving ugly shadows on the face.

Parameter tips
Say which side the window is on; write “soft falloff, detail kept” for the dark side or it goes dead black.
