Watch: The moon slowly pushes in, then a cut to a round plate of exactly the same position and size. Shape catches shape, and two times and places are sewn together seamlessly.A line-art demo that only illustrates the technique, not finished footage.

Prompt templates are written from how generation models usually behave and have not yet been verified one by one with real generations. “Common pitfalls” are judgment from experience, not official limits.

01

When to use it

Time jumps, contrasting two times and places, a sequence opening that wants to look clever.

02

Prompt template

match cut where the outgoing and incoming shots share shape or action, visual continuity across the cut.

The technique comes first, followed by the scene, action, performance and duration. Paste it straight into a video model and swap in your own characters and plot.

Match cut, the two shots sharing the same shape in composition: shot one is a full moon in the night sky as the camera slowly pushes in; cut to shot two, a fried egg on a breakfast plate in exactly the same position and size, as a hand picks up a fork. 6 seconds; the circle's position and size must line up so the cut is visually continuous.
04

Common pitfalls

  • The shapes on the two sides are too different to connect.
  • The audience has to think to get it, and the rhythm breaks.
05

Parameter tips

Shape and position must line up exactly, with very little error.
