Watch: In the top half, every shot is written differently and the person looks less and less alike with each generation (the hair and clothes change). In the bottom half, a character sheet is made first as a reference and the description is never changed, so it's the same person in all three shots.A line-art demo that only illustrates the technique, not finished footage.

Character Consistency角色一致性

The same character looks and dresses the same in every shot. The hardest and most important thing in an AI short.

This is a step in making a film, not a visual technique. For the whole process, see Make an AI short from scratch.

Prompt templates are written from how generation models usually behave and have not yet been verified one by one with real generations. “Common pitfalls” are judgment from experience, not official limits.

01

When to use it

Any narrative film with a recurring lead, series short dramas, brand characters.

02

Prompt template

First generate a character sheet as the reference image, then repeat the identical character description in every video prompt: [28-year-old Asian woman, shoulder-length black bob, one silver stud in the left ear, dark green trench coat, white canvas sneakers], and attach the same reference image.
03

Sample prompt · generate a video directly

The technique comes first, followed by the scene, action, performance and duration. Paste it straight into a video model and swap in your own characters and plot.

(Upload the character sheet as a reference) [Asian woman, 28, shoulder-length black bob, a silver stud in her left ear, dark green trench coat, white canvas sneakers] standing under a bus shelter after the rain, looking up at an approaching bus, streetlights reflecting on the wet ground. Close shot, the camera slowly pushing in, 4 seconds. Keep her appearance consistent with the reference; don't change the hair or clothes.
04

Common pitfalls

  • Each shot describes her differently, so she looks less alike with every generation.
  • Relying on text without a reference image, the face changes every time.
  • Costume details too complicated for the model to remember.
05

Parameter tips

Write the character description as one fixed paragraph and paste it unchanged; lock the face with the tool's reference image, character or subject feature.
